Tide Pools!

Today was a beautiful day and I went to the Cabrillo National Monument tide pools in Point Loma with two of the girls from work, Katelyn and Kiersten!

Low tide was at 10:02 this morning, and we got there around 10:30ish, so the tide had already started coming in by that time. Unfortunately we missed the major tide pools, but there were still enough smaller tide pools for us to explore! I've always loved tide pooling ever since I was a little kid and went with my grandparents, and I still love poking around the rocks looking for critters! We didn't find anything toooo exciting, but we still found lots of fun little animals!

Chitons!!!

Limpets!!!

And periwinkle snails, oh my!!!

Some goosenecked barnacles!!!

Starburst Anemones!

Adorable tiny orange anemones!

Hey there, little crab!

A sculpin trapped in a little pool!

ANDDDDDDD, we came across the world's biggest pile of seaweed!!!!! hahaha

Overall, a wonderful day enjoying the ocean and mother nature with friends!!!!

P.S.

When I was looking up pregnant dolphin pictures I found this picture:

Intrigued, I clicked on the image to read the article about it. Turns out there is a facility where you can actually give birth in the water with the dolphins! Now, I love dolphins just as much as the next person, probably even more than the average person, and that's just NUTS! Here's a choice quote from someone about why dolphin assisted birthing is a good idea: "Dolphins are not only masterful midwives, but they are elegant programmers of our cellular blueprint for physiological, psychological and spiritual well being through their use of high frequency sonar to transmit and embody to humans states of pure joy, love and wisdom." Again, I say NUTS!!!! Some people really are a bit mental when it comes to dolphins. hahaha

If you want to read the article or see a video of a woman giving birth with dolphins, here you go:

Needless to say, I will not be giving birth in the water with dolphins. hahaha

Hey May!

It's May!!!!!!!! And that means I have exactly one week left of my internship! But it also means I have a lot of fun stuff on my social calendar!

Currently, I am on the Breeding rotation, and in my opinion, it has been the funnest rotation so far! Most of the people are super cool and I get a LOT of animal time! Especially on the weekends when there aren't very many trainers, I pretty much get to step down with an animal every session! It's awesome! We currently have several pregnant females (2 of which should pop any day now) and a few little guys under the age of 2! Its so adorable when we occasionally get to play with the babies! I also love working with the pregnant moms and rubbing their big mama bellies! Today was soooo awesome because I actually felt one of the babies moving around inside the mom's stomach!!! :)

(See her big preggers belly!?) :)

Just like any pregnant lady, these pregnant dolphins need ultrasounds, and I've been busy helping out with them the last few days! I even got to look at the ultrasound screen and try to see the baby! (Kind of hard to tell what you are actually looking at though. haha)

I'm hoping one of the dolphins will go into labor in the next week, so that I will be able to see a baby born before I leave for a month! If not though, they for sure will have had their babies by the time that I come back for my extended internship, so I'll just have to sneak a peak onto their pier and check out the little ones! But hopefully, I will come into work one day this week and see THIS!!!!!

In other news, I have a very busy schedule planned for the month or so between my two internships! The very first weekend I finish, I will be heading up to L.A. for the weekend to visit these 2 lovely ladies! I pretty much haven't seen them in like a year, so it will be fun to live it up for a weekend before they move away to be grown ups in other parts of the country!

Just a few days after that, I will be flying to Orlando to visit my friends from my internship!!! Lauren stayed at Disney to do a second internship, and Amy was already planning to visit, so they convinced me to fly out for a few days too! I can't wait to see two of my old roomies and to visit the Seas! :)

And finally, a few days after I get back from Orlando, Yoav and I are taking an 8 day trip to Hawaii!!!!! Since he has been traveling so much for work, he racked up a ton of Marriott points, so we are getting that whole week free at a hotel!!!! We will be staying in Maui and I am already planning all the fun things we will be doing- scuba diving, zip lining, luaus and kayaking, among other things! So excited!!!!

Looks like May is going to be a marvelous month!!!!
