Oh how I love my job!

So yesterday I had one of those days that makes you just stop and think about how cool your life is at the moment. I just had such a fun day at work, and it reminded me how lucky I am to have this opportunity to do something this awesome and to get experience for future cool jobs. The day started out normal enough. I was working the 8-5 shift, so I just started doing all my normal things like wash lettuce and get ready to dive in the manatee tank. I was watching the trainer Dave feed the manatees their snacks (we use treats like bananas, appples, sweet potatoes and carrots to get them into the back pool while we vacuum) and he called me over to feed Lou!!! It was so exciting to get to hand feed him a bunch of sweet potato pieces and 2 bananas! Manatees have prehensile lips, which mean they are made for grasping, so it was pretty funny to have him grasping the food out of my hand. Their noses are all hairy and it felt weird scratching on my hand. hahaha. Then we just continued our day as normal, and I went upstairs to work with a trainer Leslie during a dolphin presentation. Usually during dolphin time we are downstairs at the window listening to the spiels since we are going to start doing them soon, but occasionally we get to go upstairs and watch a training session. So today I lucked out and got to work on some training! It was so exciting because I got to give commands to Calvin (one of our dolphins)!!!!!!! He is learning to distinguish between two commands that look similar, so we were working on that! After he got it right, I got to throw fish into his mouth!!! So much fun!!! I seriously think that I might want to go into dolphin training as a career. Everyday at work would just be insanely fun and so rewarding when things finally click and the dolphin understands something you've been teaching it! Later that day Annie, Eric and I dove in the main tank to clean algae off coral and the walls. Scrubbing coral is a pretty mundane task, but it was actually really really fun because its in front of the windows that guests look through into the aquarium, so everyone can see you and people get sooooo excited when they see a scuba diver!!! So I basically spent half the time waving to guests and posing for pictures. Haha. One twelve year old even made the "call me" hand phone gesture after taking my picture. hahaha. The last exciting thing that happened was that Annie and I got to take a picture with and meet scuba Mickey!!! Occasionally Mickey comes to The Seas and actually scuba dives in the aquarium! People can actually pay to have scuba Mickey come for special events or to like hold up a "Marry Me?" sign. How precious. Unfortunately, we missed Mickey actually diving in the tank, but were able to catch up with him after he got out of the water! :) So basically yesterday was pretty awesome, and I'm off today so I'm just relaxing!

On another note, I can't believe that its the end of July!!!! The summer is flying past!

You are seriously going to be the coolest parent at career day. I already feel sorry for the accountant that has to speak after you.
